ABB Industrial Automation Centre

The global industries is becoming increasingly competitive as the dynamic nature of the present day market demands a high level of automation and flexibility to address the changes in demand and so the demand for industrial automation is emerging. Industrial automation plays a vital role in the field of Electrical Engineering.

Automation is basically the delegation of human control function to technical equipment. It is the use of control systems such as computers, PLCs, Microcontrollers to control machinery and processes to reduce the need for human sensory and mental requirements as well.

Industrial Automation i.e. to "Automated Industry" is the basic need of almost every type of manufacturing and production unit today. Food/Beverage, Metal, Mining, Power, Textile, Petrochemical, Machine Manufacturing, Automobile etc are the few examples where we see the automation today.

In order to meet the demand of modern industries in terms of skilled technocrats and well trained engineers “ABB Industrial Automation Centre” is established in the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering.

The main aim of this centre is to bridge the gap between the expectation of modern industries and the knowledge of our graduates. The centre will help to make the aspiring engineers acquainted with the conceptual as well as practical knowledge of the Industrial Automation & latest technologies being used to achieve industrial automation.

Robotics and Automation

A workshop on Robotics was held in the department on 11th, 12th and 18th April. It was conducted by Mechanical Department. The same was very much informative and helpful for future scope of research. All faculty members attended the workshop. It provided exposure to all faculty members/students to be familiar with recent trend in robotics technology and rapidly changing scenario of the world.

A high-speed, high-performance industrial robot (Kawasaki RS020N – Payload 20 kg) of ME department, IMS Engineering College has been inaugurated today by honorable Chairman of the institute Shri Sanjay Agarwal in presence of the Director of the institute Prof (Dr.). Sraban Mukherjee, HOD-ME Prof. (Dr.) V.K. Saini and all the faculty members.
Besides Industrial Robot the centre also has Programmable Humanoid , Drone and Lego Kits.

Texas Instruments Embedded System

With the aim of providing research and development facilities to the faculty and students as well as to encourage generation of new ideas, a centre of excellence with Texas Instruments of USA was established in 2016. This centre has been equipped with advanced Microcontrollers such as MSP 430 G2553, MSP 430 F5529, TIVA, EZ430, CC3200 wireless Internet of things (IOT), EZ 430 Solar harvesting launch pads etc to provide industrial training so that student can learn and develop projects on Embedded Systems. A successful summer training program has been conducted by Department of ECE . After completing the summer training program successfully student has developed two projects that is IOT based home automation and automatic attendance monitoring system. Texas instruments centre of excellence is very helpful for the Electronics and Communication engineering students which provide platform for the student to develop and learn new projects as per the industrial requirements.

GeoSpatial Technology Centre

GeoSpatial technology is considered to be a vertical technology where its applications are enormous which can be viewed as an integration of is components like GIS, Remote Sensing and GPS. IMS Engineering College has taken the initiative to take part in the capacity building program on this technology offered by IIRS-ISRO. Since its inception of the centre at IMS Engineering College, many of the students have developed various applications and have won national level prizes. Government is also encouraging the technical institutions to proactively take part in the capacity building program on GeoSpatial Technology and encouraging students to utilize the satellite data which is available in public domain.
